News News The First West Horsley Place Picnic Society Event Raises Vital Restoration Funds We were thrilled to welcome visitors to the garden for two special fundraising events this summer. Our inaugural West Horsley Place Picnic Society Fête Champêtre was a great success. Despite a run of stormy weather, we were blessed with a dry, sunny (if slightly breezy) evening. Our intrepid supporters gathered in the garden to enjoy delicious picnic hampers from the Posh Picnic Boys. It was wonderful to see people enjoying the gardens once again after such a quiet summer at West Horsley Place. The Walled Garden Promenade saw us open the gardens the visitors once again. The event was hugely popular, and tickets sold out within 24 hours. Head Gardener Nicky Webber and her fabulous team of volunteers delighted guests with stories about the history of the gardens and our future plans. The two events raised £2,475 towards the restoration of West Horsley Place. These much-needed funds will help us to complete the first phase of restoration as we prepare to open regularly to the public from spring 2021. We are immensely grateful to our guests and our wonderful volunteers for making the events hugely enjoyable. Thanks also to the Posh Picnic Boys for providing their glorious picnic hampers and Maria Thomas Photography the beautiful photographs. Fortunately, the five acres of walled gardens provide plenty of space for social distance gatherings and we hope to hold many more Picnic Society gatherings and Garden Open Mornings next year.
