News News West Horsley Place Hosts the Surrey Historic Buildings Trust Awards 2019 The Surrey Historic Buildings Trust held their biennial Heritage Awards at West Horsley Place. We were delighted to support this important local charity, which exists to help preserve historic buildings in and around Surrey. Six buildings were shortlisted for the prestigious award. The properties dated from between the 15th and 18th centuries and represent some of the most interesting historic buildings in Surrey and ‘Best Practice’ in building conservation. The well-deserved overall winner was Parklands Farm Granary, Ockley. The judging panel was headed by Director of the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings, Matthew Slocombe (we hope we can tempt in back for a more in depth inspection of West Horsley Place), who summarised the excellent work done on each nominated property. Prizes to all shortlisted nominees were presented by SHBT Patron and Lord Lieutenant Michael More-Molyneux. The keynote speaker was our very own Martin Smith, Director of traditional builders RJ Smith and Head of Construction at West Horsley Place. Martin is much more than a builder; he is fascinated by ancient buildings and spends his spare time researching the history of the Manor House. He gave a fascinating talk on the 15th century origins of the house, we have invited him to give it again so that we may invite our friends and supporters to attend.
