Visit Access Access We are committed to making West Horsley Place as accessible and inclusive as possible. We know we have a lot of work to do to achieve this goal - including improving the information you can find here on our website ahead of your visit. Admissions Area There are disabled parking spaces available in our tarmacked carpark, near to our visitor entrance. The visitor entrance is marked by two 'Welcome' flags. There is a short path, including some gravel to our Admissions Area. All visitors for booked events should report to the Admissions Area on arival. There is a small step into the Admissions Area. Use of a hearing loop is available here. Place Farm Barn, including our pop-up cafe is a very short walk along a gravel path from the Admissions Area. The Manor House is roughly 200m from the Admissions Area, including some gravel areas. If you would find this difficult it may be possible to arrange for parking near the Manor House, please get in touch so we can arrange this with you. The Manor House The ground floor of the house is accessible for wheelchair users. We have stone-flagged floors, and ancient floorboards, so surfaces may be uneven. The first floor is accessible, via a standard platform lift, and we have two main historic staircases, with handrails. The lift platform is 140 x 100cm, with a 75cm doorway. It can carry up to 400kg. All areas of the walled gardens are accessible via a step-free route. The gardens are unpaved and the predominant surface is turf, which may be uneven. We have an accessible ground floor toilet suitable for wheelchair users (right-hand transfer), plus baby-changing. The house is a few minutes' walk from the car park, via our Admissions Area, including a gravel path. It may be possible to arrange for parking near the Manor House for visitors who would find this difficult to navigate. Please get in touch so we can arrange this with you. In the event of an emergency, please follow signs and instructions to exit the building. Our Emergency escape route plans are available to view below for those who wish to familiarise themselves before their arrival. Ground floor emergency escape route plan First floor emergency escape route plan Place Farm Barn Our beautiful eighteenth-century barn has recently been refurbished and has a level resin-bonded gravel courtyard, including our pop-up cafe. It is a very short walk along a gravel path from the main car park. Again, if you need to access the Barn by driving closer, please get in touch. Our courtyard is a lovely space with tables and flowerbeds, overlooking fields. When the barn is open, there are usually tables and chairs inside. This may alter when there is an event, such as an exhibition, in the barn. We have two accessible toilets, one off the Barn Foyer (including baby-changing) and one off the courtyard. We don't have a Changing Places toilet, but there are a number in the area: details here. In the event of an emergency, please follow signs and instructions to exit the building. Our Emergency escape route plans are available to view below for those who wish to familiarise themselves before their arrival. Barn emergency escape route plan General information We will add further information here as the project develops. We are looking at options for the future, such as hearing loops and access to a quiet space. Do contact us if you'd like to talk about any aspect of visiting us, whether it's a simple query or investigating access for visitors with more complex needs. If there's more information that we can usefully provide on this page, do let us know. If you have any questions about accessibility at any of our events or open days please call on 01483 282032 or e-mail [email protected] Our access panel As part of our Heritage Without Barriers programme, we are recruiting an access panel, which we hope will include people of many different lived experiences and with different access requirements. This panel will advise us on how we can make West Horsley Place as accessible as possible. You can find out more about becoming a member of our access panel below or by emailing [email protected].
