Tales After Dark is our series of intimate evening storytelling experiences for adults, each with a different theme, new tales to experience and time for a tipple.

"I cannot tell you how marvellous an evening this was. Sublime storytelling in such an atmospheric house."

Burns Night

"From ghoulies and ghosties and long-leggedy beasties and things that go bump in the night, Good Lord deliver us.”

Join us for Auld Lang Syne on a Scottish-flavoured evening, with logs burning on the fire and the cold January winds howling. Discover West Horsley Place’s Scottish links, and how far a lady will go to protect her castle. Be spellbound by tales of abduction by the fairies. And celebrate Burns Night in style as we pay tribute to Scotland's favourite storyteller with a spooky tale directly inspired by one of his most celebrated poems.

Enjoy exclusive access to the historical manor house after hours. Discover an incredible library full of ancient books, the history of the Stone Hall (where Henry VIII once dined) and the magic of the beautiful Drawing Room. As the home of BBC Ghosts, fans of the show will not want to miss the opportunity to see the house at night.

Special Guest: Stephe Harrop

Stephe Harrop is a contemporary storyteller, creating and sharing performances across the UK, and beyond. Stephe also researches and writes about contemporary storytellers, as well as training students to develop their own storytelling practices. She is the author of Contemporary Storytelling Performance: Female Artists on Practices, Platforms, Presences (Routledge, 2023).
