To improve safety on the busy A246 and comply with Guildford Borough Council's conditions to our 2017 "Arts Planning Consent" for all the Mary Roxburghe Trust's activities at West Horsley Place, a new right hand turning lane for traffic travelling westwards will be created on the A246 into the main drive at West Horsley Place.  Other improvements will include a new bus shelter and a reduced speed limit.  This work is funded by the Trust, not the taxpayer.

We have been working over a long period with Surrey County Council to achieve the necessary consents and have now had confirmation that works will start on the 6th January 2020 and last up to a predicted 8 weeks.

We apologise in advance for the short-term inconvenience this will cause as the works will necessitate single lane alternating traffic controlled by lights.  The widening of the road will necessitate the removal of approximately 120 yards of the hedge along the south side of the A246 to provide space for the new turning lane, and a new replacement hedge will be planted linking at either end to the existing hedge. We are working closely with Surrey Wildlife Trust to undertake any necessary surveys. The end result should be a significant improvement to road safety particularly when there are events at West Horsley Place.

We will be sure to update you with any further information we receive from Surrey County Council.
