West Horsley Place is looking for a freelance facilitator to work with 15 blind or partially blind people to develop and deliver a co-created, multi-sensory experience such as a sensory garden or trail. 

As part of our NHLF funded project “Heritage without Barriers” we have an initial focus on welcoming blind and partially blind people to West Horsley Place, having trained volunteers in visual awareness and audio description. We are now looking for a facilitator to support the development of a co-created multi-sensory experience such as a sensory garden or trail, working with blind and partially blind participants.

Main Purpose of Role

West Horsley Place is looking for a freelance facilitator to work with 15 blind or partially blind people to develop and deliver a co-created, multi-sensory experience such as a sensory garden or trail. This programme will take place during summer/autumn 2022 and the exact design of the programme will be led by participants.

The programme will result in a multi-sensory experience which can be enjoyed by all future visitors to West Horsley Place. Through the project, participants will have learnt about heritage and our heritage will be more accessible to blind and partially blind people.

The main responsibilities of the facilitator will be to:

  • Work closely with the Community Engagement Coordinator to shape recruitment of blind and partially blind people to take part in the project
  • Deliver a series of workshops which facilitate a group of 15 blind and partially blind people to develop and deliver a co-created a multi-sensory experience and accessible interpretation
  • Work with West Horsley Place’s Access Panel and Chair, listening to and acting on feedback to improve access to the programme and resulting multi-sensory experience.
  • Undertake evaluation, using and tailoring proposed evaluation methods
  • Undertake and communicate risk assessments for proposed activities.
  • Work closely with the Estate & Gardens Manager and trained garden volunteers to plan and undertake work to implement the multi-sensory experience.
  • Ensure all activities adhere to West Horsley Place's safeguarding policy
