On Your Doorstep Explore the treasures On Your Doorstep this summer Theatre, art, history, food, fresh air… five brilliant reasons find out what’s #OnYourDoorstep this summer. Five of Surrey’s best-loved and most accessible cultural organisations have teamed up to encourage everyone looking for a great experience this summer to explore the wealth of cultural activities available on their doorstep. Watts Gallery, Guildford Shakespeare Company, West Horsley Place, Yvonne Arnaud Theatre and The Sime Gallery are offering a vast range of attractions and activities this summer, and the best thing is that you don’t have to travel far or spend a fortune to get involved: From epic open-air theatre around Guildford Cathedral to an introduction to watercolour painting; from artist’s village walking tours to music for midsummer and discovering a hidden art gallery gem in Worplesdon. Ilona Harris (Director of West Horsley Place Trust): “There’s so much on offer in the region that even for those that know the area well, there are hidden secrets to discover. Accessing culture, heritage and nature is hugely positive to people’s wellbeing and is simply a source of joy. We want everyone to know what’s available to them, right on their doorstep.” Matt Pinches (Co-Founder of GSC): “We’re incredibly blessed in this area to have such an abundance of cultural experiences on our doorstep, but as organisations we’re also acutely aware that with so much on offer, especially with our proximity to London, that the treasures that are just around the corner can often be missed. This summer, we collectively wanted to raise awareness of these unique, local experiences and encourage more people to explore what’s on their doorstep. Getting your culture vulture on doesn't have to cost the earth, nor do you have go to the ends of the earth to find it.” The five-strong group of art galleries, theatres and heritage sites are all accessible by public transport and bicycles, whilst three of them are located in Guildford town centre itself. Between them they offer a vast range of experiences, many being free of charge or with similar donation or Pay What You Can schemes.
