Queen Elizabeth II waving

We're delighted to be part of the community celebrations for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee; the house has seen many celebrations, and indeed many monarchs, but never the chance to mark a 70-year reign.

On Thursday 2nd, we'll be part of the chain of 2000+ beacons across the UK and Commonwealth with the lighting of the Horsley Jubilee Beacon in front of the manor house (9.45pm). The event opens at 9pm and there'll be music and singing, and even a bagpiper.

Sunday 5th sees the Jubilee Pageant start at West Horsley Place, with a Procession of decorated cars and floats from the manor house to Horsley Towers to join the Picnic Party and Musical Celebration (leaving West Horsley Place 2.30pm). We'll even have our own 'Queen' for a royal ceremony (2.20pm).

jubliee flagOur wonderful GladRags Gang of volunteer stitchers has created a special Platinum Jubilee flag, as part of the East Horsley Festival of Flags.

It's a superb quilted patchwork flag made from scraps from fabric from the house and from the team, with a special embroidery on the reverse to mark the occasion.

It was a showery day when the Queen was crowned in 1953, but we're hoping for sunshine and a bit of breeze for those flags!
