Art from Nature

Taking a gentle walk around our beautiful estate, artist Sarah Henson will help you develop a heightened visual response to your surroundings. 

On our walk we will be collecting small objects such as twigs, feathers and grass, and experimenting with weaving and binding objects together to create constructed textile hangings to take home. In addition, during our walk we will mark our trail by creating temporary land art, laying objects on the ground, focussing on colour, texture and shape, and recording these with photographs as we go along.

Each outcome will be unique and dependent on the direct response to the conditions on the day

Sarah Henson

Sarah Henson is an artist based in Surrey. Since completing studies at the Royal Academy Schools London, she has exhibited her work at the Crane Kalman Gallery, the Royal Academy of Arts, Mall Galleries, Bankside Gallery, the Barbican Centre, Christie’s and Cadogan Contemporary Gallery London.

Since settling in Surrey to raise her family, Sarah has found great reward in passing on her passion for art to others. After leaving her job teaching art and fine art constructed textiles at Hurtwood House, Sarah set up her own business in 2014, teaching art to adults, as well as continuing to exhibit more locally at Surrey University, Bourneside Gallery, Art@Work, and Guildford Institute.

She has received a number of awards for her work, including the Bayer Earth Art Award, Mall Galleries (Highly Commended), the De Segonzac travel scholarship to SE Asia, and the ‘Antique Collector’ prize.

“As a teacher/facilitator, my aim is to help my students develop an individual response to the world around them by providing the technical ‘tools’ for them to explore their ideas. It is very rewarding to enable people to see the landscape with an artist’s eye, in a heightened way, looking at space, shape, different viewpoints; challenging pre-conceptions, and opening up a wealth of possibilities. Since living in the area of the Surrey Hills countryside, the ever-changing landscape has provided me with endless inspiration and visual resources.”

No experience needed

All materials provided. 

We will be outside at all times, so appropriate outdoor clothing and footwear are required.

Tea & Coffee provided. 

Ages 18+

Access restrictions: This workshop will not be suitable for wheelchair users; and will involve walking over uneven surfaces.
