This talk will lead you behind the walls of the court to discover what food people at the highest level of society had access to, who was entitled to what and which food was suitable as a gift fit for a king. The talk will analyse the role of food as a social marker and explain various food restrictions. The presenter will look at food which had entered the Tudor court for the first time and discuss the Tudor’s attitude to what a healthy and balanced diet meant for members of the court. Last but not least you will learn about the importance of table etiquette.

 

Brigitte Webster

Brigitte Webster is the author of Eating with the Tudors, a study that focuses on food, cooking and eating in Tudor England. She is a qualified teacher of cookery & history and is currently working on her MA dissertation at the University of East Anglia. Brigitte has appeared on Prof Suzannah Lipscomb’s TV series Walking Tudor England and is a regular contributor to international history podcasts.
